I am a sucker for angles. There I said it. The first thing which attracted me to the Kanken family of bags wasn't their amazing variety of colours. Neither was it the allure of buying a Swedish classic which has been around ever since 1960. No, it was the cute, charming corners of the backpack which pointed (pardon the pun) me towards ilovemykanken.com so that I could order my very own bag as soon as possible.

The website deserves an entire soliloquy on its own. The accents in black! The inclusion of so, many, colours, in a way that isn't gaudy or painful to the eyes deserves much applause. In a nutshell, it's very very attractive. However, this site did not sacrifice brains for beauty and indeed, shopping is totally hassle-free. One can choose to browse via colour or style, making the selection of one's bag a breeze, even with the insane number of choices available.

I placed my order for a Black Anniversary Kanken Mini alongside a friend's and the bag arrived promptly a week later. While it was on its way, I stalked its journey across the seas and skies with the help of the very informative tracking system I Love My Kanken employs. Kudos to them for that, especially since shipping is totally free! Waiting for my bag to arrive was thus a very painless process and it was even made pleasurable with anticipation.

Finally, when the bag arrived, I was thrilled to see that it looked exactly like the stock picture. The material is far sturdier than that used by conventional bags, allowing me to believe that this is a bag I'll be using years down the road. The metal buttons keeping the straps together all feature the Fjallraven emblem of a fox, which is a very nice touch. The brown of the logo at the front of the bag also complements the black of the bag very well.

Some might be dubious about the utility of the Mini range of backpacks because of their size but I am here to declare that the amount of stuff one can fit into such a bag is downright astonishing. My Mini can hold an iPad (within a bulky case), a SLR camera, my wallet, multiple pens and even squeeze in a leather jacket to boot! All that and the material doesn't stretch, ensuring that the bag won't lose its shape over time, given proper care. Furthermore, the way the main compartment opens up means that everything within my bag is within easy reach once I unzip it. The foam pad which is thoughtfully included in the extra pocket also asures with that my belongings are nicely cushioned against impacts.

I am overjoyed with my own Kanken Mini and am sure that if you get one, you'll be as well! This bag is a monster in terms of functionality and looks and I adore it to pieces.

I'm going to be honest and say that it wasn't love at first sight for me and Kånken.

When I first saw it a few years back in a photo online, I thought to myself, "What a strange backpack, it's so angular and rigid-looking. Why would anyone buy something like that?"

But for all it's angularity and rigid-lookingness, I fell in love with it upon seeing it in real life at a sportswear shop. The material, like canvas but tougher and waterproof to boot; the practicality of its signature rectangular shape; the removable foam pad backing that doubles as a seat... It was clear that this wasn't just any regular backpack, this was one made to survive years of abuse, yet still look amazing at the end of it all. I was so close to buying it on the spot (a black Kånken classic), but decided to sleep on it (one should never impulsive shop) and do further research online, which brought me to ilovemykanken.com where I found the Kånken Laptop 13".

The Black Kånken Laptop 13" fits my MacBook Pro 13" perfectly, and on days I don't bring my laptop out, the laptop compartment serves as a handy extra compartment, and everyone appreciates an extra compartment :) I love the fact that my laptop gets its own compartment and not just one in the main compartment, because then I won't have to worry about scratching it whenever I throw random items into the main compartment. One thing worth noting about the Kånken Laptop backpacks is that the laptop compartment is inconspicuous, situated behind the main compartment, which basically means it doesn't look any different from a Kånken classic other than the fact that the shoulder straps are padded. First when I met kanken on internet i thought it looked a bit odd and it was just one another hipster nonsense. But i read so many positive reviews on it that i changed my mind very quickly. All of them said how useful, light and weatherproof it was. And when i found out that this bag which has been on sale for more than 30 years also has a laptop version, i decided that i had to try it.

Well, a Kanken is the cat's pajamas of backpacks, stylish and functional. But as someone who has strong opinions about colors, I want to be able to choose from a lot of different colors. They carry all colors, and if something happens to be out of stock, they will let you know when they get more.

What's more, they do a great job of showing you the colors, so you don't have to guess at what you are going to get. For instance, there are seven different shades of green available for a Kanken. And most of us don't have the luxury of seeing them all in person before we make our selection. With this website, that won't be a problem at all.

I don't know any other place online that can offer this much variety. That's very important to me!

You can't describe Kanken in just one word. That's almost impossible. Okay, make that impossible. Buying a Kanken is probably one of the best decisions I've ever made!


I currently own a Sky Blue Kanken and it is the perfect bag! It is one of the only bags to have ever lasted me for this long. It is really really durable cause I've been known to spoil and break bags really fast. Also, though I bought a mini, it actually fits my laptop! So don't be fooled by it's name, this mini can actually fit tons and tons of stuff in it. My Kanken also has enough compartments so it's easier for me to look for my things.


It has also gone through all sorts of sticky situations with me (I spilled coke on it and it survived!!!!), and it is really perfect for almost every single outfit. It adds a bright burst of colour to everything that I wear, and I feel so happy and cheerful just carrying my Kanken all the way to school. I bring it to school with me everyday, and it's really one of a kind.


Buying a Kanken is a worthy investment that everyone should do.

Firstly, I'd like to talk about the website. ilovemykanken's website is honestly one of the most well-designed and easy to use websites that I have encountered before. It is simplistic, products are well categorized and there is no fuss while adding to the cart.

Secondly, I love the fact that if the specific item is out of sale, you can just put in your email to be informed when they restock. That to me is what I look out for in good service.

Thirdly, shipping. What can I say? Free shipping on all orders worldwide? and at a decent speed of just a week? I'd say that is just brilliant! One of the main issues that stop me from purchasing from online sites is due to the high shipping costs, however they provide shipping that is on time (7-10 days).

Lastly, customer service. It is absolutely great that these guys at ilovemykanken have a twitter support account. I was initially worried about the whereabouts of my package so I enquired through their twitter account and in less than a day, they got back to me promptly!

As a daughter of a Scandi, I didn't understand that Kankens weren't the only rucksacks available. Me and my siblings between us has a whole rainbow of colours direct from Sweden for Birthdays and Christmases. Being a teenage put these out of favour with us.

Received my very first Kanken this week and I love it! It's great that the padded laptop pocket is on the back and separate from the main compartment; my 13inch MacBook Pro fits in nice and snug.

The bag is also really comfortable to wear and the material feels very durable. I also bought the extra chest strap which works really well if you have a heavy load.

The customer service was some of the best I have ever experienced from an online store, thanks Lindsay! Plus, the website is so easy to navigate and looks really cool too.

"I love my Fjallraven Kanken - forever!"

The best backpack in the whole world, absolutely. Very durable, and can withstand any weather may it be snow, rain or wet, cold wind. I use it mostly for carrying my laptop (which fits perfectly!) and it keeps it dry and safe. It also has a handy foam mat, on the back pocket of the pack- I use it as a sitting mat for picnics and music festivals! I love mostly the aesthetic of the backpack - the snuggly square, rounded corners and of course, the brand. I have gotten so many "Are you Swedish?" remarks while traveling with my Kanken. It's such a well-known symbol of the country, that I couldn't help but be a part of! And since Sweden is the place that I love the most, having lived there for a couple of years. I take it as a compliment. I'm happy to be carrying my special ID card with me: a memory of fun Swedish summers with friends by the water, or picnicking in the woods, or just simply hanging out having fika in the city. My Fjallraven is a witness of precious, golden memories, and a sweet reminder that I will be back!

I have been using my Kanken Classic for almost a year now. It is super awesome! Very pleased with it and its the best purchase I have ever made. It becomes part of my life. Cycling home in waterproofs, Kanken comfortably on my back, gym bag tied to the back of my bike; I was resigned to finding my books, and trainers, and iPod, completely soaked and ruined. At home I peeled off my coat, wet to the skin, my shirt sticking to me. I dried off and investigated my gym kit; my iPod was doing the backstroke in a puddle in my trainers. I dreaded opening my backpack and though how i'd try to dry out my books and pens. I should have been more confident. The inside of my Kanken was completely dry; the outside was wet but the fibres of the Kanken had soaked up the water and retained it, rather than let it through the bag.
That's the best illustration of how reliable the Kanken is; reinforced straps ensure that the backpack is strong, the design is comfortable on wearing, and highly visible with it's colour and reflectors, while the unique fibres keep everything dry and safe.
The Kanken is unassuming, and quietly confident. It's also bloody cute.

My mother has a Kanken which she had had since the 70's for mountain walking - and I must add is still using! I used it through school and sixth form, it never gave out, even when over stuffed with files and books - the squared shape was perfect for this. it got dragged around the school, on the bus, on trips, stayed rain proof despite some crumbling of the internal surface coating over time. still no sign of damage, just a more worn and comfortable to wear! the front pocket was ever so lslightly too small for a pencil case of the coolest size and could only half zip closed but that was ok. I begged to have it as my own, but no, I could only borrow it. I went to university, moved out, got bigger, occasionally borrowed it to take abroad and to go on digs (archaeological conservator). A month or so ago I decided to get my own Kanken at last! hopefully it will last as long as my mothers has, she still uses her kanken, it is still fully stitched and moderatetly showerproof - astonishing really considering how long it has been in use for - never stop making them! they may last forever but as someone who works with ancient things all the time - i can really appreciate something that keeps on going!

I spotted these rucksacks around and found myself writing down the brand name while on the tube so I could look at them on the internet. To my joy I found there are loads of different types and colours so I bought one of these rucksacks and have found it lightweight, comfortable to wear and really cute! The customer service was great too and I had no trouble ordering. It is ideal for carrying around as a handbag and am starting a new course soon so I'll be able to fill it up with my notebooks also. The shape of the bag is really handy for whatever you need to fit in it.

A few years ago in a mid-west American high school I was making my way to lunch when I spotted a girl with the most adorable back pack that had a sleek fox logo on the back. Since receiving the bag I have had no regrets. Though I was not able to have it in my high school years the Kanken has held up wonderful through the past two years of daily use in college. Since it is the maxi I have no issues when cramming in everything I need throughout the day.
Though I received the bag as a gift from my mother she informed me that the bag arrived right when it was supposed to. Having fallen in love with a friend's Fjallraven vintage shoulder bag, I snapped one up when I found it on the I Love My Kanken website. But was also intrigued by the dedicated following that the traditional Kankens seemed to have. I had been
looking for a medium sized rucksack for travelling, so thought I would try a Kanken Maxi. My boyfriend was sure it would be too small from the stated capacity, but luckily he was wrong. We toured Scandanavia 27 years ago. We bought two Kankens, one in Norway and one in Sweden. They are still in use every week. Fantastic !

A friend had a Kanken and I commented on it one day, at which point he showed me all the reasons it was a great bag. He showed me the reflector logo, the zip that opens 3 sides of the bag completely, the 2 side pockets to keep an umberella and pens in, and the seat pad inside for picnics. I thought it was great, and promptly ordered this one for myself nad now find that I too must guide people through all the great things about this bag!

I chose the laptop one, as it has an extra pocket at the back to keep my paerwork in, and also the straps are padded, which makes it more comfortable for carrying heavy things around.

I Love My Kanken is a great website - since buying this one, I've returned twice! There's free postage when you spend £25, and the order came the next day in lovely packaging. I couldn't ask for anything more and have spread the word to 3 friends, all of whom are super happy with their purchases, and even if we all turn up with our Kankens, we never look the same.

I really wanted a Fjallraven Kanken, but there are so few places to get them in the UK or Ireland - then I stumbled upon this website - it is really the best online Fjallraven supplier that I found.

The website was very easy to use - you could choose by colour or size of bag. I knew I wanted a classic kanken so then it was easy to scroll through all the colours... the only difficult part was choosing the colour that I wanted!

In fact it took me so long deciding which colour I wanted, and I happened to be shopping at the same time they were changing which items were on sale or not, that when I finally decided on the Ice Blue Kanken Classic it happened to have gone back to its regular price. I just mentioned this to them and they were really really lovely and gave me the sale price again!

The customer service was really fantastic - I actually talked with them via Twitter and they got back very quickly.

I would definitely recommend it - it really has the best selection of Kankens outside of a Fjallraven store! Much better than going to a sporting shop that might have the odd Kanken in a colour you don't want!

It was the first day of spring and i went for a walk with my sisters daughter to a petting zoo.

I could never pack a lunch in my old laptop/messenger bag without crushing it, and I've wasted so much money buying crappy food when I'm on campus or at work all day. I adore my Kanken! I had been searching for a backpack for ages, and its perfect for my 13" laptop...I never worry about it being bumped or damaged thanks to the lovely compartment. As a graduate student I tend to cart around many MANY things all day long and my back and shoulders are never sore. Plus the great material keeps out the dreary London rain, with a handy side pocket that fits my umbrella perfectly. Plan on ordering another soon to take on trips.
