The arctic fox, or Alopex Lagopus as it is called in Latin, is an animal that greatly impressed Fjällräven's founder, Åke Nordin, during his hikes in the mountains. The arctic fox has adapted to life high in the Swedish mountains and has the warmest fur of all predators. Its fuzzy winter fur is extremely useful when winter settles over this Arctic wonder.
Unfortunately, the arctic fox is in acute danger of extinction across Europe. Extreme over-hunting for its fur in the beginning of the 1900s led to a drastic fall in the number of arctic foxes. A dwindling food supply and competition from the red fox are the main reasons why the arctic fox population is under the threat of extinction today.
